Apple WWDC: Time to consider how to integrate omni commerce with the on-device/server hybrid model?

Heads up! Apple Developer Conference WWDC yesterday was, as usual, a whirlwind of announcements, ranging from the arrival of the calculator app on the iPad to claims about integrating AI into everyday life.
What caught my attention was their on-device models for AI, complemented by a “private compute” server version that acts as a seamless extension
Much of this already exists; for example, Google’s on-device Gemini Nano and Microsoft’s CoPilot for everyday usage.
However, what Apple brings to the table is their classic top-tier integration of hardware and software, creating a comprehensive, omnipresent experience for the masses. Love it.
“In the following overview, we will detail how two of these models — a ~3 billion parameter on-device language model, and a larger server-based language model available with Private Cloud Compute and running on Apple silicon servers — have been built and adapted to perform specialized tasks efficiently, accurately, and responsibly.”
I applaud Apple for releasing this detailed information on their approach! Now is the time to consider how to integrate retail omnichannel experiences with this hybrid on-device/server approach 🚀
I am writing on a longer piece for agentthinking.ai regarding the hybrid apprach and how I believe AI-agents will be connected to this. Stay tuned. 🙂
